Ingredients

bread

butter/spread

a range of toppings; jam, marmalade, marmite, savoury filling

Method

  • If you’re using a toaster, set the control for how dark you want the toast to be before you put it in, push the button down and the toast will pop up when it’s ready.

  • If using the grill, preheat to high, once it is hot, put your slices of bread on the tray and carefully place this under the grill to toast to toast the bread. When you’ve got the colour you want carefully pull the tray out and flip the slices over with some tongs/oven gloves.

REMEMBER when you take the tray out again it will be hot so use oven gloves. Toast on the other side until perfect, some people prefer to toast on one side only, that is fine too!

Toppings on Toast

Toasted bread slices topped with scrambled eggs/fried eggs/bacon slices and made into a sandwich/ pan fried halloumi cheese( 3 mm slices), think of your own ideas and add them to this list!

Eggy cheese on toast:

Beat 2 eggs, add a handful of grated cheese,( ideal for leftover’s and you can mix different cheeses for an interesting flavour) whisk with a fork, toast one side of your bread and then spread the cheesy mixture on the uncooked side, grill until golden and bubbling, add a twist of black pepper, enjoy!

French Toast:

Beat an egg and dip the slice of bread into it covering both sides, I use a fork to hold it and to press it into the egg mixture. Place this into a hot saucepan which has a little oil in it, ‘fry’ the bread on both sides then eat! Add seasoning to taste.

Toasted cheese sandwiches:

An easy way to make a quick toasted sandwich is to heat a small fry pan, whilst heating butter 2 slices of bread and placer one slice butter side down on the pan. Place a slice of processed dairy cheese ( often wrapped singly) and then place the second slice butter side up on top. Check the first slice in the pan and when golden brown flip the sandwich using a slice/ wooden spatula and when the second slice os golden removed from the pan. Turn off the heat and cut the toasted sandwich into quarters, eat carefully as it will be hot and delicious!
